Winners of 2012 Writing Prize

The Margaret Allemang Society for the History of Nursing is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Writing Prize for the best submission of an essay on the history of nursing.
This year we received two such excellent papers that we have, for the first time, awarded two prizes.
The winners are Catherine Haney RN MScN for her paper “Professional Abortion Discourse and American Nursing Practice 1962-1972″ and Laura Jablonski BN for her essay “Saskatchewan Air Ambulance Flight Nurses, 1940s-50s: An Historical Enquiry.”
Catherine is at the University of British Columbia and Laura at Trinity Western University. Winners each receive $250 and a year’s membership in the Society. We wish them all success in future endeavours.
History of Nursing Writing Prize for 2013

Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students, from any faculty, at Canadian universities and community colleges.
Value: $250, a one year membership in the Allemang Society, and an opportunity to publish your paper in our newsletter
Deadline: June 30 of each year
Criteria for submission
The paper may deal with any topic in the history of nursing in any period and in any country.
Papers should be a minimum of 8 pages and maximum of 25 pages in length.
Papers may be submitted by email or in hard copy. Electronic copies should be in Microsoft Word and include academic affiliation, address, and telephone number. Those submitting hard copy should send 3 copies one copy only with name, academic affiliation, address, telephone number and email.
